Plein-air Painting Workshop with Rick Daskam

This year I will be offering an Painting Workshop on Monhegan Island in Maine. The workshop will take place Monday, July 13th thru Friday, July 17th, 2020.
I invite you to join me on Monhegan Island, a place that artists have been painting for over 150 years. For 18 years it has provided me with unending inspiration for Plein-Air painting. The aim is to help you learn skills painting Plein-air. While accomplishing this, one will enjoy a place that can transport you back to a simpler lifestyle, in a community of artists who share the love of painting. During the week, we will focus on drawing, composition, perspective, values and color.
Schedule
- Monday arrive-Monday evening: A wine and cheese meet and greet will take place.
- Tuesday 9 am: A short demo will be given, followed by a painting session. Through out this time individual critiques and encouragement will be offered.
- Tuesday 12-1 pm: Lunch break.
- Tuesday 1 pm: We begin a new painting and finish for the day around 4 pm.
- Tuesday 4:00-5:00 pm: We gather for group critiques on the Trailing Yew porch.
Class size
Minimum 6, Maxim 12 students.
Payment
The cost of the workshop is $400.00 (ferry, room and board is separate).
50% deposit is due to confirm your registration. Remaining balance is due before May 30th.

Painting Supplies
- French easel, or pochade
- Palette
- Paint thinner, painting medium and cotton rags
- Palette knife and oil paint, various colors*
- 10 small canvas boards**
** I suggest you bring an assortment of 8"x 10", 9"x 12", 11"x 14" or 12"x 16" boards. Whatever you prefer. I prefer 9 x 12 and 12 x 16, they fit in the same size wet panel carrier.
What Else to Bring
- Hat and Sun glasses
- A light foldable chair (if you prefer to sit)
- Sun screen
- Insect repellent
- 2 pairs of comfortable walking/hiking footwear.
- Comfortable clothes; including a sweatshirt, as it is cooler at night and on the ferry ride over.
Travel and Lodging
I will be staying at the Trailing Yew, which is rather rustic. Other hotels on the Island include: the Monhegan House and the Island Inn. Cottages are available, if a small group would like to rent together. For rental and additional information go to, www.monhegan.info. Transportation: I use the Hardy Boat ferry out of New Harbor. You may also use the Balmy Days ferry out of Boothbay Harbor or the Elizabeth Ann / Laura B. ferry out of Port Clyde. These web sites and additional information are available at www.monhegan.info
